    Arrival – Colombo / Mount Lavinia

    On your midnight arrival to BIA, JourneyScapes Airport Representative and your guide will meet you and assist you at the arrival lounge and escort you to the vehicle. You will then be transferred to hotel in Colombo / Mount Lavinia. Check in to the hotel and rest of the day at leisure. Overnight accommodation at hotel.

  • Day 3
    The Elephant Orphanage in Pinnawela.

    Enjoy your breakfast at the Hotel. Thereafter proceed to Sigiriya via Pinnawela. En route visit The Elephant Orphanage in Pinnawela. The Pinnewela Elephant Orphanage is situated northwest of the town of Kegalle, halfway between the present capital Colombo and the ancient royal residence Kandy in the hills of central Sri Lanka. It was established in 1975 by the Sri Lanka wildlife department in a 25-acre coconut property near the MahaOyaRiver.

    The orphanage was originally founded in order to afford care and protection to the many orphaned elephants found in the jungle. Late afternoonvisit the Golden Rock Cave Temple in Dambulla. The caves date back to the 1st century BC. They are sited on a gigantic granite outcrop, which towers over 160m above the surrounding land. The inside of the caves are completely covered by ancient frescoes of Lord Buddha. Many have been carved out of living rock, the largest of which is 15m long of a dying Buddha.     Sigiriya

    After breakfast visit the legendary Sigiriya Rock Fortress, famous for its frescoes of ‘Celestial Maidens’ is possibly the most impressive site in Sri Lanka. Built by King Kashyapa in the 5th century on the top of a vast 200m granite rock it took seven years to build and was abandoned after 10 years of occupation when the King, defeated by his brother committed suicide. Although it is a steep climb, the views and frescoes are definitely worth the effort. Sigiriya is best visited first thing in the morning or just before sunset when it is cooler and less crowded.

    Afternoon sightseeing of the medieval city of Polonnaruwa(a UNESCO World heritage site), Declared as a world heritage site, the city of Polonnaruwa is the second most ancient of Sri Lanka’s kingdoms. Polonnaruwa was the medieval capital of Sri Lanka from the 11th to the 13th century AD. However, it was supposed to be inhabited long before this from around the 2nd century BC. The reign of King Parakramabahu in the 12th century AD is known as the Golden Age of Polonnaruwa. Return to the hotel for overnight accommodation.

    The Ancient Mystic City of Anuradhapura.

    After breakfast proceed to the ancient city of Anuradhapura.

    Set on a sightseeing tour of the ancient mystic city of Anuradhapura. The remarkable city of Anuradhapura is the Sri Lanka’s most sacred town and has some of the most extensive ruins in the world. This city served as a great monastic centre. It remained residence and royal capital for over 100 successive Sinhalese Kings for around 1500 years from the 4th century BC to the 8th century AD, after which it was abandoned and the capital moved to Polonnaruwa. Anuradhapura has eight main places of veneration, known as “Atamasthana” They are;Sri Maha Bodhi, Ruwanweliseya, Thuparamaya, Lovamahapaya (Brazen Palace), AbhayagiriDagoba, Jetavanaramaya, MirisavetiStupa,Lankaramaya).     A Spice Garden in Matale.

    After breakfast proceed to Kandy. En route visit a Spice garden in Matale. Here you’ll find in abundance the great scents, tastes and medicines that made and make Sri Lanka famous. Stroll around the fragrant greenery and through the cardamom groves in the shade of huge tropical trees and give you a sense of smell a new lease on life.You can Smell,See and learn about Nutmeg, Pepper, Cloves, Curry, Cinnamon and many others at Matale, and experience the great riches of Sri Lanka’s cuisine and traditional Ayurveda therapy.Relax and enjoy a 15 minute complimentary Ayurvedic Massage.     Peradeniya Botanical Gardens

    After breakfast visit the Royal Botanical Gardens of Peradeniya.

    Peradeniya Botanical Gardens, known to be the most beautiful garden in South Asia and is a lovely place to spend a few hours. These gorgeous gardens were first planted and laid out for King Kirthi Sri Rajasingha (1747 – 1780) and cover some 60 ha (150 acres) of trees, lawns and flowering shrubs, including a 20 ha (50 acre) arboretum of more than 10,000 trees. Under British rule, the royal park became a botanical garden in 1821 and is the largest of Sri Lanka’s three main botanical gardens. Here exotic crops such as coffee, tea, nutmeg, rubber and cinchona (quinine) – all of which later became important to Sri Lanka’s economy.
